Learn Hebrew While Cooking - Tachini

Updated: Jun 15, 2020

Tachini (Tchina - טְחִינָה) is an Israeli spread (mimrach - מִמְרָח) which is very healthy and of course delicious! It is very recommended for vegan people and goes well with Falafel. Here’s a very short and easy recipe!

Note:

This recipe is made by using raw Tachini, which is ground Sesame (sumsum - שׂוּמשׂוּם), in Israel, raw tahini is bought because the preparation process is a bit complicated, and this is a product sold almost at every supermarket.

The Ingredients

  • 1 cup raw tachini (thina golmit - טְחִינָה גָּולְמִית)

  • ¼ cup lemon (limon - לִימוֹן) juice (if you have a fresh lemon it’s even better! Squeeze one.)

  • 1 cup water (ma'im - מָיִם)

  • ½ tea spoon of salt (melach' - מֵלַח)

  • 2 crushed garlic (shum - שׁוּם) cloves

  • ¼ black pepper (pilpel - פִּלְפֶּל)

The Instructions

Mix all of the ingredients together until the mixture gets a uniform texture.

Upgrade tip: If you like spicy (charif - חָרִיף) food, you should add hot sauce to your mixture (as much as you like).
